Diffy B James, professional scammer, sent me these three emails:

Email 1
Hello, i saw your advert on Craigslist, will like to see more pics and what is your firm price ??

Email 2
Thank you for getting back to me, sorry for the late response due to the nature of my work, can you assure me that it’s in good condition because I don’t want to be disappointed buying this from you. I’m ready to pay your asking price but due to the nature of my work, i will not be able to come for the inspection because I’m an oceanographer, I can’t make any calls right now, I would have called you and discuss about this transaction, sorry for that but I’m able to access email anytime as I’m making use of PDA on sea, so the only quickest payment option is PayPal, I make the payment via PayPal since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to create. Just log on to www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the deal as fast as possible? I have a Pick Up Agent that will come for the Inspection and take care of every necessary paper for me. the Pick Up Agent will also handle the pick up after i have send the money to your PayPal account, will like to see more pics.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

Many Thanks

Email 3 (in response to me calling him out)
I told you earlier, I’m out of state, I’m offshore and there is no way for me to come up with the cash, PayPal is reliable, secured and a fast way to pay money online moreover i don’t have the money in CASH and I cant travel with such huge amount, I can only pay via my VERIFIED PayPal account because I can’t go around with such huge amount, if you don’t have an account with PayPal kindly go towww.paypal.com you will be instructed on how to create a new account and get back to me when that is done. . kindly send me your PayPal email address so i can send the money to you now.
Best Regards

I figured out how the scam works. I got the same email when I tried to sell my Chevy suburban on Craigslist. So I did some research and found out a few things. (Actually, I got two of these scam emails on the same vehicle within 2 days of each other from two different people.) Anyway, they use Paypal because paypal has a really good “make it right” policy. They send the funds to your paypal account and right away they come to pick up the product or in this case a used car. Meanwhile, you think you have your money but as soon as they pick up the vehicle, using “an agent” they notify paypal that they didn’t receive the product. Paypal will automatically refund their money unless you can come up with proof that you delivered the vehicle. The only form of proof paypal accepts is a tracking number with SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION from either the post office or UPS. Well, you won’t be able to show proof of a signature because the guy is offshore and used an agent. Guess what… this just may be the newest way of stealing cars!

I got this same intro today from diffyjames111@tlen.pl. Luckily I noticed a Poland email and instantly googled his name. I will call him out if he responds to my reply about calling me to discuss the sale. Thanks for the warning everyone,

I now got an email for Attorney Webster (forgot last name) with a Poland email p.pl address. I got an email for this sale a few months ago and the guy had the same story about paying me $100.00 more than I wanted and his dad had the same car, but I can not remember the email location. I asked the guy to call me as he was typing in broken english (tip off) without a reply. I would not sell to anyone unless they bring a certified check and are within the tri-state area.

CURRENT EMAIL FROM: James Diffy diffjames11@gmail.com

    Hi There,

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it’s in good condition and that i will not be disappointed with it. I’m ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my son, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am leaving any moment from now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon.

Wow you saved my butt thanks for posting this. I got the exact email from this guy. A carbon copy. I was just trying to sell my bike. But it kept getting weirder and weirder. He added a pay pal request for a western union and agent fee of 1500. I will be notifying pay pal. He does say that paypal will release the funds after his agent picks up the bike. . Once again thanks for posting this. I would have lost a bike and 1500. Does any body know where this guy lives. And who is this agent he uses… I am half tempted to say just have your agent come here and have my friend at the state patrol and sheriffs office arrest home. That way he can enjoy xmas in jail.

    December 25th, 2011 at 09:42 | #20

I got the same exact thing. But he said I am sending the money. The got an titled from paypal but the return address was wrong. The email also states that I needed to send western union to his shipping agent. Until then I thought he was local. I never agreed to any wire transfer so I told him for 1500 I would deliver it to the merest Ktm dealer and have him pick it up. Then he got more aggressive and said old get this done soon so I can give it to my kid by christmas. The funny thing was that if he had email. Then he could use western union on line. I contacted paypal. Cregs list. And since I am an officer in the army and this was done to me while on base. I contacted CID. Then went to the FBI and filed under the scam area against soldiers or their families. I also for another fake email saying if I did not send the 1500 to the agent the fbi would send my name and picture to the local police…. So I contacted them also. The return email also was not from paypal…and paypal as everybody know does not respond that fast. I would really like to thank who ever put up this website. I had a real bad feeling and googled him that led me here. I will add that this format is also being used under another name and email but the exact same word are being used. Thanks for putting the word out on this guy. I may not have lost 1500 or my bike, but this guy cost me a week of sells and other offers. So either way damage is done…. Be advised. I do not think he is really using paypal. I my case I never saw pending or any thing else, hold,,, nothing. So I think he is now but passing.g pay pal. And sending a fake paypal message.

    Hey,
As of today (03 March, 2012) this guy is still at it, under the name D F James
I posted on craigslist Boston about selling a boat.
I have a similar story to all those above, even the illiterate wording is the same. To make it even more strange, we even had a g-chat conversation:

me: hey i got your e-mail

    please give me a call
    1:15 PM
    D: hello jake
    1:16 PM
    I’m sorry i can’t makecalls
    1:17 PM
me: ok, well when you can, I would like to talk to you. I haven’t received anything to my paypal account. Until we can talk this over I’m not comfortable making any deals or western union transfers
    1:18 PM
D: I got the confirmation message from PayPal that the money i sent to you is on hold due to security and safety measure,

all you have to do is to go to Western Union with the $1,000 and send it to the agent, make sure you email PayPal the Western Union receipt so they can release the full funds to you and the pick up will be arranged. when will you get this done so i can email the agent to get ready for pick up ???
    1:19 PM
me: i have no record of funds in my account. usually there is a pending status, but my account doesn’t show anything.
    1:20 PM
im not going to send any money to the pick up agent. if you can’t arrange for someone to arrive with the money, I’m afraid that we don’t have a deal.

D: the money is held by PayPal and will be visible to you once you send the money to the agent
    1:21 PM
me: what agent? I have no address or name. you will need to coordinate this with whomever you want to pick the boat up. when you do please get back in touch.
    5 minutes
    1:27 PM
    me: Thanks for understanding.

    D: Name : Lydia Flowers
    Address : 23820 Southwest 132nd Avenue.
    City : Homestead.
    State : Florida.
    Zip Code : 33032-2414.

I hope this information will be helpful for anyone who is trying to get this bastard.

Thanks for putting up this site!

My boyfriend just received the exact same emails as you all have described here for a tractor he is selling. He used the email address djjames@gmail.com. We did file reports through the government, as well. What a shame that this guy is still engaging in this criminal behavior. Thankfully we are all smart enough people to realize that he’s a fake. Unfortunately, there are many unassumming individuals out there who wouldn’t think twice about sending money and/or personal information to this creep. Hopefully they will get him and he will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Many thanks for creating this site as I was instantly directed here upon googling.

I have the same email conversations with this guy as most of you. I figured it was a scam from the beginning. I’ve been playing with him to see all of his moves. I asked him for a scanned image of his driver’s license for security purposes. He said I should trust him because he is a loyal citizen and a good Christian. I asked to see a picture of his family so he can prove that he’s a family man. I’m really disappointed that he has not written back in over 9 hours. I have plans for him.

He’s trying to get me right now – I’m trying to get as much info on him as possible so I can give it to the police – I wish there was a way that people could trace IP addresses (I know the government can). Then it would be easy to catch this guy. There must be a way…. I want to catch this scumbag so badly….. I would seriously get so much pleasure out of finding out his info and getting him arrested… Sucks that the internet is so unsafe these days… and it’s probably getting worse. There will be a whole department at police stations for it soon. These people need to be put in jail!

To his next victim – toy with him to get info… We need to catch this guy.

Same sad story here. Good luck catching him. I think he likes toying with everyone. Sad, sick individual. Is there anyway to work with craigslist to catch him?

From: “James Diffy” Add sender to ContactsTo: “karen akeo” Thank you for the message. I understand you and i want you to know that this money has been fully deducted from my account, both the item money and the shippers money, i made the payment altogether and this money is on pending status according to what PayPal sent to my email.you should have receive the confirmation message regarding the payment in your paypal email ,check the inbox , junk or spam folders for message from paypal regarding the transfer. PayPal made it clear to me in the confirmation message that was forwarded to me that you will have to look for a way of sending the added $2000 to the shipper address through western union and forward the proof of sending the money to them for verification, once they receive the proof that send the money, they will release the full funds to your paypal account immediately. i will like you to comply with their policy by sending the $2000 to the shipper through western union and forward the Western Union details to PayPal. I should have take care of this myself but due to the nature of my job, am at offshore now and there is no any Western Union office here to send the money. I have explain this to PayPal and also explain to you as well. So that is the reason why i couldn’t cover this by myself. And PayPal said since i have added the shipper money to the payment i made to your account. for some security reasons, you will have to send the added $2000 to the shipper and forward the proof of sending the money to them, such as the MTCN, and the scan copy of the issued receipt by western union. Once they receive this proof from you, they will contact me and release your money immediately, and also contact my shipper for the details so that they could cash the money and come to you for the pick up. So kindly try your best and look for the $2000 and send it to my shipper address given to you and forward the proof of sending the money to PayPal for verification. I am very sure that you will receive the full payment in your account same day.

    Thank you for your understanding.

this is one of his many emails babahahhahaaa..JERK!!!!!

OH Yeah, This guy is unbelievable, and still working his scam. I recieved his last e-mail and he actually called me the scammer, and he was going to rteport me to the FBI because I`m ripping him off. I had a truck on Craigslist for sale and he responded that he was in the Merchant Marines, and will be paying of course through PayPal. Of course I would need to wire the $900 shipping fee in advance to prepay. Once this had been cleared then , of course he would be crediting my account with my asking price, plus the $900 shipping, plus Western Union transfer fees, and all handling fees incurred.
RRRRIght. I`m gonna get right on that . Let me send you $900 bucks Western Union, when I`ve undergone a frontal lobotomy! I sent him an e-mail telling him I contacted the FBI Field Office in Miami and that they are well aware of him and the case is active. Of course this was not true, but maybe he will discontinue this scam.

If you have been scammed by this guy, you can take the following action: Go to http://www.FBI.gov, click on “contact us”, then click on the link to report internet crime. There is a group called the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) that appears to be the group gathering and organizing internet crime for the FBI…not sure if they are a separate group or part of the FBI.

I received a response email for a craigslist posting for the piano i am selling. this person bryan taylor said he will pay full price for the piano i posted however i notified him that price is negotiable. who would pay full price when i am willing to lower it as the seller.

after numerous emails from both bryan and I. he told me he will pay full price plus $800. He asked kindly if i would send $800 to Western Union under the name of Lydia Flowers . Western union will in turn give me a transaction number to send to paypal.

I was skeptical about this transaction and I will be canceling the deal. In addition, he will not provide me with his phone number because he said he will be out at sea for work. He claims he is an oceanographer. Believable, but not this time.

FYI, the shipping company he said he will be arranging is through DAS Dependable Automobile Shipper.

Well, Mr. Diffy will be dealt with soon and he will meet his end. He picked on the wrong person this time and caused me to lose some time, now he is going to do some time. The internet police have his allocation numbers where he has been shooting out his scam mails and they will watch him for awhile to pick up some other criminal actions he might be involved in and then he will get what he deserves causing ill to innocent people with his hype. He messed with PayPal security this time with me and guess what! I got some good friends at PayPal and they assured me that this fella will go to jail. Hurray.

    Email 1
    Hi,

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it’s in good state and that i will not be disappointed with it.I’m ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my Son, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am leaving any moment from now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I’m able to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon. will like to see more pics.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

    Many Thanks

    Email 2
I just contacted an Agent that will help me handle the pick up, I cannot come to pick it up due to the nature of my work, but the agent will help me get it to my house when all the payment has been made, I will need your home address so i can send it to the agent for pick-up after the payment has been cleared.

Can you assure me that it’s in good state and that i will not be disappointed with it.I’m ready to pay your asking price and to be honest. Since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. My biggest tip-off was that “he” never seemed to read what I wrote…just responded as though I told him what he wanted to hear. THANK YOU AGAIN! Email addy used: djjjames1@gmail.com.

It’s sad that people are being bilked for so much money. He tried me, but I caught on. I played with him for a few day and them got tired of waisting my time with the crook. My last emial to him was……. “From my first email I knew that you were conducting fraudulent and illegal transactions. We notified Paypal several days ago and they are aware of your crime. You are breaking the law! You are a very dishonest individual and should be punished for your actions. You have cheated and defrauded allot of people from their money. Is is sickening to watch your behaior. I have notified law enforcement people in our local area.”

I just got almost the same emails as above from the same email address djjjames1@gmail.com All I can say is most gmail accounts are just that scams! And never sell something on craigslist without out meeting the person and cash transactions!!! What a creep!

    This guy used two emails:

    D F James djjjames1@gmail.com

    Apr 1 (5 days ago)

    to me
    Hi There,

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it’s in good
condition and that i will not be disappointed with it. I’m ready to
pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my
son, but the issue is I’m not in state right now, I’m out of state for
coaching program where i stationed for my rugby coaching. But I’m able
to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only
quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal
anytime.Since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i
will be responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction
and if you don’t have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe
and secured to open one. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can
make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come
for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary
paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon.
I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email
address so i can send the money now.

    Best Regards.

All the stories here all the same, wow, this guy is scum.. So I received this from the scammer a few days ago regarding a craiglist ad I did for my husband over the weekend.

    DF James

I saw your advert on Craigslist, how long have you been using this ? and let me know your firm price Thanks

My husband then replied back basically asking him what his firm price was & this is what he sent back:

    D F James

I want to know your firm price before i make any offer.

OK so that’s when my husband had me take a look at the email and it took me only a second to see it was a scam, then a quick google search of his email, confirmed everything.. Needless to say I tore him up when I replied back!! Hope they catch the SOB…

I also received the following email and became suspicious, not figuring out how a PayPal transaction could go bad. Thanks for all the posts – saved me some serious aggravation.

    “Hi There,

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

    Then this email from him:

I got the email too. I knew it was bogus from the get go, so I decided to play along. I figured I would at least waste his time to get even for his waste of mine. My recommendation- don’t give ANY information- not valid paypal info, ph, address, nothing. Just give fake stuff and act super excited about the deal. It worked until I gave a fake Western Union confirmation number. He said it wasn’t coming through and asked for a receipt of what I sent. I got a receipt off Google images and filled it out- addressed to him for 6 million dollars (and some other, uh, friendly notes on it to give him a little gotcha feel.)

BTW that homestead, fl address is for All Dade Door company. I don’t know if they are being used and have no clue about the whole scam or if they’re part of it. But I called the phone number (305-257-2700) and left a message to let them know, and that the FBI has been contacted. If you want to play along, give them a call!

This guy is not using paypal. How he does it, is he has copied a template from paypal. Then he emails it to you like it is from paypal If you notice in your email received address he adds a R with a circle around it. A real paypal email address is service@paypal Its only a matter of time before the feds get this piece of work.

  96. May 20th, 2012 at 01:55 | #98

I got emails regarding the rv I had posted on craigslist. He ALMOST got me, but both my brothers are I.T guys. The email he used was bryantaylor013@gmail.com. I got the whole occeanographer, been offshore…blah blah. This has all transpired over the past few days.

    May 20th, 2012 at 17:03 | #99

    Update on this.

I had just posted a truck on CL, immediately after I received information identical to the ones posted here.

He used a template from paypal and set up a fake email for Service@PayPal.com registered to the secureroot.com domain.

The name Peter Paul, email of peterpl136@gmail.com

Honestly glad I am a security major and triple check the validity of anything performed online to ensure its authenticity before I proceed.

Always check your account on the paypal website, if there isn’t information regarding the transaction there, then it is not going to be legitimate.

Just thought I would share and let everyone know this scam is still mainstream.

I am currently in a conversation with the bryantaylor013@gmail.com version and I’m keeping him on the line so I can figure out how to trace him … I’ve come up with the IP address 10.180.86.106 that he’s sending all this crap from … and apparently when googled there are other wholly unrelated criminal attempts from the same address … however, when I look the address up on IP locators, it comes back unknown … this is why the guy can keep using the same scams over and over again because he’s come up with a way to cover up his tracks … IS ANYONE HERE TECH SAVVY ENOUGH TO NAIL THE @()#$# KNOWING THE ABOVE IP ADDRESS? IF SO PLEASE DO – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

    • August 8th, 2012 at 18:55 | #128

10.180.86.106 is a private IP Address on a private network. I have the public IP address for the scammer, which was traced to Bucharest. If you have connections in Bucharest then feel free to post another comment. There are likely several different scammers using the same tactics is my guess, all overseas or using proxies.

    August 15th, 2012 at 01:24 | #131

These scammers…. I’ve gotten fake checks fit my truck that was for sale but I don’t he ever wanted to pick it up, I wouldn’t let the truck leave until the check cashed.. The check was for a real acct but was washed(already been cashed and fit a different amount) took it to the bank and they said it was good until I explained my situation feeling like I was getting scammed they looked into the check more and found out it was already cashed.. The deal was the check got mixed up with another so I needed to return some money via western union, after I called him out I got the “FBI will be coming to your house and blah blah blah” I told him go ahead I’ll be waiting for them with your fake check and a copy of all emails.. He never said anything back… Now I posted an ad saying I wanted to pay iPhones, he said “I would like to this to replace my daughters broken tab” I wasn’t selling anything but I played along just to see what I need to be looking out for, and it was the PayPal scheme he asks that you request money from him and PayPal will a pending transaction for the requested amount, but it won’t show up in the balance because they don’t ever send money.. He then try’s to say you must verify tracking before PayPal will release the funds.. There are me funds to be released and those of you who have used PayPal know what it should look like, he also has fake PayPal emails that have the wrong return address and say that they will release the funds or have received the funds from him but they won’t show up in your PayPal because he never sent any!! It’s just a way to get you to ship your item to him and get nothing in return.. Beware away if you are unsure about an email or transaction through PayPal, call them!! If you get an actual check make sure you have the bank teller look at the numbers and run a check on it because most likely it’s washed and you will be held accountable for cashing a bad check, that’s check fraud!! The bank will cash the check if they don’t look at it close enough and then weeks later you will be in trouble for check fraud.. BE CAREFUL out there!!!

I’m ready to pay your asking price but due to the nature of my work, I’m not in state so i will not able to come for the inspection, sorry for that but I’m able to access email anytime as I’m making use of PDA, i have a pick up agent that will come for the inspection and the pick up, the only quickest payment option is PayPal, I make the payment via PayPal since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to create. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the deal as fast as possible? I have a Pick Up Agent that will come for the Inspection and take care of every necessary paper for me. the Pick Up Agent will also handle the pick up after i have send the money to your PayPal account.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

I told him I don’t do PayPal only cash or check. He is kind of pushy:

I told you earlier. I’m around to show up with cash, I’m offshore now, PayPal is reliable, secured and a fast way to pay money online moreover i don’t have the money in CASH and I’m not around now, I can only pay via my VERIFIED PayPal account because I can’t go around with such huge amount, if you don’t have an account with PayPal kindly go to http://www.paypal.com you will be instructed on how to create a new account and get back to me when that is done. . kindly send me your PayPal email address so i can pay you for the item now.
    Best Regards

I’m currently screwing with “Bryan’s” mind. He’s trying to get me to ship my laptop to him and I’m playing stupid.

I’m going to keep this going with him forever if I can.

One more and now he’s an oceanographer named Bryan Taylor. Same line, word for word. Nothing specific to the ad. Scam buyer, suspected:

    From email address jmhirano@sbcglobal.net:

Do you still have the item for sale?

    Next reply from bryantaylor@gmail.com:

Thank you for getting back to me.Can you assure me that it’s in good state and i will not be disappointed with it.I’m ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my Son and i want it to be a surprise gift for him, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am on my way right now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I’m able to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop and also i can text you any time so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to http://www.PayPal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will be handling all the necessary thing for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon.

Now he is actually using this email bryantaylor013@gmail.com Bryan Taylor is an oceanographer and could afford to have an agent show up with the cash in hand.
    Brian Taylor
Dr. Taylor is the chief executive of a $140M/yr enterprise with about 850 employees, including 230 Ph.D.s, 440 staff and 180 graduate assistants.
Glad I decided to google the email address that is how I came across your site same email about using pay pal.

  133. Not falling for it!
    August 25th, 2012 at 11:55 | #137

Yep – Brian Taylor, oceanographer, is trying to buy a car from me for his “father”. Has to happen before he leaves tomorrow… No calls as he is at sea. He’ll pay via PayPal, have the agent pick up. Word for word, the same as many of the above posts. Thanks for having this page to reference.

Well, the thing is, the Dr. Taylor is BRIAN, not BRYAN as per the Gmail account.
A friend of mine just received contact from this scammer and the difference in the name resulted in us finding your blog re: this creatin. Thanks, everyone for trying to bag this jerk!

It’s a noble effort, but the ip address is in the private space, meaning you can’t use it to track the scammer. It’s not his actual IP Address.

So it can be anyone from anywhere?

  140. August 25th, 2012 at 18:33 | #145

Based on a 10.whatever IP address, yes.

The original scammer – the reason I started posting this stuff – was located in Bucharest (based on his public IP address. Unless he was using a proxy, which allows you to use an IP Address that is not your own so that it’s very difficult to trace.

He’s going by Bryan Taylor, Paul Lewis AND Tom Leblanc. Multiple email addresses, same pattern and type of email…1st one was “what is your firm price” (this was under “Tom Leblanc”); 2nd one was from a different email address and was under “Bryan Taylor” and wanted to know if the item was still for sale. Last email I got was the song and dance about being an oceanographer and wanting to buy the car for his son; he would be more than happy to go through Paypal and and agent would come pick up the car.

uh-huh. Right. Didn’t sound legit, all sorts of alarms going off, etc. Came here and confirmed it.

Dude used the same fake email for me using the name “Patrick Olmstead”..Said he was an Oceanographer, blah blah wanted to buy my motorcycle for his son as a surprise. Can’t CL and the feds team up on this? If he was sending a company to pick up my motorcycle couldn’t the feds meet that company and see where the motorcycle was supposed to go?

    @Robert

As a matter of fact he is trying to scam me right now. I have paypal for a long long time and I know exactly how it works. I have my 50″ HDTV on Craigslist and he said that he wants to buy it through paypal and pay for the shipment. So I then gave my paypal email address and received a fake email from Paypal.

I forwarded the email to paypal and verified it as “phishing”. I told Bryan Taylor that I went to my account and didn’t money and he said once it is shipped with tracking I will see the money so I told him “I’m not buying it”. Whoever this guy is, he is a dirt bag”

    Advise to everybody:
    1. “DO NOT SEND MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION” unless it is for someone you know” like friends and family. There is no way of tracking western union.
    2. If through paypal: If it is very suspicious send the email to spoof@paypal.com and they will tell you if it is scam or not.

For this to work I will need to make a few things clear, you know to get legalities out of the way. You would need to confirm you are buying the item without seeing it and you are happy with that fact.
Also you would need the courier to send a license with picture on it to me beforehand so that I can give the car keys to the right person. The invoice on Paypal will then have the guys details on it to say he is picking it up to enforce the contract.

This is just so that we both are protected and we are doing everything right. Hope that is still ok with you.

I got the oceanographer, buying for my father, email. First one was from taylorbryan573@gmail.com. Second one was from bryantaylor013@gmail.com. I assumed it was scam from the get go and seeing this string of replies from others definately confirms it. There was a picture (supposedly of Bryan) attached on mine which almost let me think for a moment that it might be valid. My only concern now is can he hack into my computer now that he knows my email address?

Here’s my experience with “bryantaylor005@gmail.com,” from first to latest email:

So i we be looking forward to hear back from you soon…

Hello, and thank you for your note. I just got a chance to check my email for the first time today, but I am away from home too at the moment.

I have left a message with my son, and I will follow up with him when I get home this evening, just to be certain that he hasn’t committed the hippodrome to someone else since I last spoke with him a few days ago (though I’m pretty sure that he would have left me a message, if that had occurred).

As soon as I talk with him, I will send along another note. My son (who is a certified mechanic, incidentally) checked over the hippodrome when we decided to sell it, and he replaced routine stuff – fluids, the battery (I think – but I’ll double-check with him), and at least one hydraulic hose. (He was considering replacing others so that they would be the same age as the one that was just replaced. I will talk with him about that possibility, especially if we don’t have to deliver the thing.) Apart from that, he hasn’t told me of other possible issues, but I will check with him when I speak with him. (Neither of us has any interest in selling anything – especially a hippodrome – that’s going to be a disappointment to the new owner, as we’ve been on the purchasing side of a number of internet sales, good and not-so-good, and we definitely prefer the “good.”)

As for PayPal, yes, we’ve had an account pretty much since it started out. It can be accessed via our secondary email. (I’ll send this email via that account, just to be sure that you have an accurate copy.) Anyway, yes, certainly, I would be glad to conduct the transaction via PayPal if you are absorbing the fees. (I purchased a couple other hippodromes some years ago using PayPal, and it worked out very well for buyer and seller. But it’s been long enough now that I don’t what the fees were.)

I will send along a further follow-up after I talk with my son. If there is any additional information that you would like to have, just let me know.

Thank you again for your interest-

    Andy

[followed by a small flurry of emails from "PayPal" claiming to have received funds in my account - which, of course, were transparently obvious phonies, and which - surprise! - had no relation to any actual transaction in my PayPal account; the next email from "Bryan" revealed the exact angle of his scan]

    Hello

I just want to inform you that i have just completed the payment and i hope you must have been notified in your email about the payment i made through PayPal, you can check your e-mail for confirmation of payment, I have sent the money and it has been successfully deducted from my account.
I need to inform you about this, I just received an email from my pick up agent, I’m most sure i did not include this in my previous emails, The agent told me he won’t come for the pick up unless i pay the agent commission fees first in order to be able to schedule a pick up time, The pick up Agent Head Quarters is in the US and all commission payment made for pick up from anywhere in the world is sent to their Head Quarters in the US and the only form of payment they accept is Western Union Money Transfer. and also PayPal said they won’t release the funds until they get the western union information from you due to the fact that i emailed them about the excess payment i made. i will need you to send the $1,300 to the pick up agent Headquarters where they normally confirm any commission payment to via western union money transfer(this can be done from the post office, online at http://www.westernunion.com or any WALMART STORE) as they usually have a western union agent there) , i added extra $200 to cover the western union charges which shouldn’t be more than $120-155 but just to be sure i added $200.

Here is the pick up agent Headquarter info needed to get the money sent through western union money transfer.

    Name : Lensj Nava
Address : 1907 van buren street,
    City : Saginaw,
    State : Michigan
    Zip code : 48602
    Country : United State.

Please kindly email the necessary details to paypal once you have send the money . . .

1.The MTCN number that is the 10 digits number on the Western Union receipt
2.Sender’s name and address used in sending the money
    3.Actual amount sent

    Regards

    [then, the next morning...]

Hello Good morning how was your night, i just want to remind you about the pick up fee you are to send to the agent kindly get back to me as soon as you get it done and also email PayPal the full western union information as well so that they can post your fund into your PayPal account without any delay. Thanks

[and then, because I just couldn't quite resist "following up"...]

Good morning to you, too, Mr. Taylor.

I guess you didn’t get my email from last night, so I am attaching it (see below) and resending it. But you must be really tired, working all day out on that ship, since you seem to have forgotten that you had your two FBI agent friends, Mr. Ness and Mr. Zimbalist, deliver the cash from the PayPal account to me yesterday, so that we wouldn’t have to worry about PayPal confirmations or Western Union transfers. They were very interested in making sure that I was ready to complete the transaction, and they wanted to get copies of all of our emails to make sure that I was the one that you sent them to. It must be nice to have such good friends in a law enforcement agency, to help make sure that you aren’t victimized by any internet scams. Of course, some people aren’t so lucky as you, and end up losing money that they need to feed their children or stay in their home to some dirtbag who takes advantage of their trust in strangers – but then maybe even dirtbags have to feed their children. (Of course, if they put even half as much effort into actual productive work as they do into their scams, they’d have no problem supporting themselves, but they don’t seem to figure that out until they’re sitting in jail, thinking about how they’ve wasted their lives and their talents.) So anyway, yes, I was glad to see that you don’t have to worry about being taken advantage of, with your FBI friends checking out your transactions for you.

Here’s hoping that you and your friends get to spend more time with each other, when you’re finally back from your voyage.

    Andy

    Hi, Mr. Taylor…

Thank you so much for your prompt payment, but the money arrived even before I had a chance to speak with my son to be sure that he hadn’t already sold the hippodrome. (You should have told me that FBI agents would be delivering cash to me directly from PayPal! You must have some friends in “high places” to get that sort of favor!) Unfortunately, when I spoke with my son, he gave me some sad news. He informed me that yesterday he accidentally started up the hippodrome without any oil in the motor, and now he must rebuild the engine. However, he is fixing it right now, and he tells me that, since he won’t be able to have it ready to ship for a couple days yet, he will just truck it directly to your home himself and drop it off there. And although it will, of course, cost us more than the shipping cost that you added to your payment, he will absorb the difference. So there’s no need to worry about fooling with Western Union transfers, as my son will deliver the hippodrome directly to your address in Saginaw. (I was a bit surprised to see your that you live in Michigan, though. Are there a lot of oceanographers living that far inland. But then, judging by the appearance of your house, it looks as though you may not get to spend very much time there. Have you ever considered moving closer to your work? I hear there’s a nice place available on a small island in the San Francisco Bay, for instance, that would be especially suited to oceanographers like you.)

Anyway, I forwarded my son the picture of your house (see below), so that he will be able to recognize it easily when he gets to your neighborhood in Saginaw. All he needs is your son’s phone number so that he can call him when he gets there. Won’t your son be surprised with his gift! You are such a generous father!

[I included an actual Zillow photo of "his" address in Saginaw - which, incidentally, is foreclosure that's up for sale for something like $8500... I was rather disappointed that he didn't have a more exclusive address]

I hope that you and your son enjoy your new hippodrome. It looks as though it will be a nice addition to your side yard or your back porch, and I’m sure that you’ll have fun entertaining all the neighborhood children. (Just make sure that they all stand clear of the flamethrower when you’re starting it up!)

And thank you again for the special delivery of the cash payment! You really know how to do business!

    Your friend-

I am so GLAD I googled this man’s name & email before we went any further with selling him our car that was listed on Craig’s list! He has sent me an email mail word for word as it is listed here! Oh my GOSH!!!”Bryan Taylor” is the person who has texted me. I replied that I needed to check with my husband first because I had heard of some PayPal scams. I’m glad I went with my gut feeling. Thank you so much for listing what you have!

DON’T FALL FOR THIS!!! I had this email sent to me on advertising a synth on ebay. The comments in this email are generalized and do not add up. Anyone who uses Ebay knows you need paypal as payment option! In addition, the names attached to the emails are different ever time but use the same email address (iamaglobalkid@gmail.com).

Please have some common sense and don’t fall for this scam!!!

Don’t be fooled by this guy. If they hit a wall on meeting in person and not able to send payment as you request then it is probably a SCAM. Hope this helps keep anyone from being SCAMMED.

The initial offer of $1,000 over the asking price didn’t set off alarm bells, though it should have, but the absence of a payment received in my PayPal account, the semi-coherent instructions and third-world grammar in the email below (in contrast to the clarity and good grammar of/in the preceding emails), and, most of all, the request that I “pay the excess fund of $1,500USD through western union to the paypal recommended shipping agent” certainly did.

    Hi ,
I made the payment and the paypal agent assigned to our transaction confirmed it and sent you emails regarding the process. Please do check your email both inbox and spam to read the process The fund has been deducted from my account but the PayPal agent made me realize that the fund is being pend and held in there Administrator escrow external PayPal account, that the funds cannot be reversed or canceled under any circumstances. They said they are still expecting to receive the necessary western union Information from you such as western union receipt, and you are required to send the western union information to them within the next 12 hours because they can’t credit your account until you get this money send to the agent and get back to them with the western union receipt.More so this funds has been deducted from my account so the Funds is being pend and held in escrow external PayPal Administrator account and they need you to use your personal fund to pay the excess fund of $1,500USD through western union to the paypal recommended shipping agent details in the confirmations of payment they sent to you.

He was using the name Gideon Mills and texting me via 619 786-4307 last night and offering to pay an extra $50 for my $300 item via check. I’m not sure how this particular version of the scam works, but he claims to be an Oceanographer and using similarly strange grammer as in the above examples.

What I dont understand is that you know how his “pick up” agent will come and pick up whatever product it is.. I say one of us should allow that to happen.. let the pick up agent come.. inform the police beforehand so that they are waiting nearby the seller’s location.. once they grab the pickup agent.. im sure we will find out lots of things.. like who sent him.. where was he going to take the pproduct aftwr buying it etc etc. .

address:(where they confirm all Commission Payments so that they can
be able to schedule a suitable Pick Up Date and Time immediately) and
your funds will be released to your account immediately you verify the
transfer with paypal by sending them the Reference code which will be
given to you at Money Gram when you send funds upfront. Then shipper
can come over for the pick up when funds are fully released.I’ll need
your address where they have to come for the pick up. find below, the
shipping agent info needed to pay the fees through Money Gram..

HY there, thanks everyone for sharing. Our “friend” is trying in Belgium now, used car site (autoscout24.be)
here is wat i got from him:Hi,

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it’s in good state and that i will not be disappointed with it.I’m ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my Son, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am leaving any moment from now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I’m able to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon. will like to see more pics.

    mailto:iamjager@live.com (michel de jager)

Hi, I was selling my car on Mercadolibre.com and this guy Troy J John contacts me via the web site, asking me to answer him through my mail, not the web site mail, because he never checked those mails, only his personal account, and he gave me his email. That he wanted to buy my car for his uncle in California (without seeing it) just photographs and taking it from Mexico to California. He said the price was ok in dollars I told him how much, and that we should do it through Pay Pal. When I called Pay Pal to find out their real policies, they advise me that if someone wanted to pay more than 10,000 USD it will be a fraud, because it is not permitted by law to pay more than $10,000 USD per transaction. He asks me for my personal email address and keep going on with the negotiation. He was polite but something was to good to be truth. I thought how can someone buy a car without looking at it? How can someone take a car from Mexico to the US if you need a lot of permits and it is a lot of time an paperwork, but I wanted to believe because I wanted to sell my car… When I agreed to sell it, he said that someone was going to pick it up and sing the papers and do all the paper work, the company was “Hill Logistics Inc”. Then he sends me an email mentioning that he already send me the money and also $1,000 USD more, and that I have to go to “Western Union” to deposit the $1000 USD in order to free the funds for my car payment. That I should check the spam folder because sometimes pay pal emails go there. I called Pay Pal immediately and told them this guy was trying to pay me more than $10,000 USD, and they advice me to cancel my Pay Pal account, so I did. Imagine the nerve of this guy that start sending me emails (Spam) on behalf Pay Pal Service with this email address: pay-palfundsdesk@secureroot.com and telling me that if I don’t deposit the $1000 USD to Money Gram under “Andrew Hoerber” name, I will be prosecuted by the FBI!!! Oh my God!!! this guys are crazy!! I hope they get caught and we people are more careful on this kind of emails, never believing something that is too good to be truth!! AWARE!! BE CAREFUL!! I am glad I Google the names before I went on with the deal!!

I am trying to sell my mountain bike on two sites, one local and one national. I am an experienced scam baiter and wanted to have a little fun with him. Unfortunately he has gone silent after our short exchange.
He’s now a Navy Officer using this address (mrs.tomlaylor001@gmail.com). He contacted me first via text message from (214)997-7455.
I responded to the email address with this:

    Price is as advertised.

Here is the response email from him:

Thanks for the prompt response. I’m Okay with the condition as I have
already go through it on the ad but just trying to make little inquiry
from you, I’m ready to buy it now as a gift for my Daughter, I’m at
sea at the moment as I’m a Navy Officer, and due to the nature of my
Job…..phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but
I squeezed out time to check this advert and send you a message
regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise for my Daughter I
won’t let her know anything about it until it gets delivered to her, I
am sure she will be more than happy with it. I insisted on PayPal
because I don’t have access to my bank account online as I don’t have
internet banking, but I can pay from my PayPal account, as I have my
bank a/c attached to it, Get back to me with your PayPal email and the
price so I can proceed with the payment quickly, and sorry if you
don’t have an Account, you sign-up for a PayPal personal account
http://www.paypal.com it is very fast and easy to set up. And there is a
shipping company pick up agent that will come for the pick up after
the payment has been sorted out.

    Thanks.

And my reply to his email:

    Hi Tom,
Wow! A Navy officer! Thank god, someone who is honest, trustworthy and reliable. I was afraid when I listed my bike that I would be contacted by fraudstars. Unfortunately I do not use PayPal, I would much rather have you wire the money to me via Western Union. That way I know I will get my money. Let me know how you would like to proceed.
    Regards
